Bio

Tom Allen is an up and coming, dynamic designer who has been based in the design hub of Barcelona since 2006. This vibrant city combined with his extensive travels throughout Europe, Asia and Oceania, the people he meets and his surroundings provide strong inspiration for all his designs. With a broad understanding of different cultures, people, languages and markets, Tom is currently freelancing, providing design and insights to clients worldwide.

In 2008, Tom completed his Master in Product Design at Elisava, Escola Superior de Disseny, Barcelona where he collaborated with respected companies such as Hewlett-Packard, Santa & Cole and Cosmic (Roca Bathrooms). Tom was selected to exhibit his Candela lighting collection with Elisava at 100% Design London.

While completing his Master, Tom was chosen to work at the Hewlett Packard Design Centre in Barcelona, as an Industrial/Interaction Designer Intern for a year (2008), where he worked with a highly professional team designing Large Format Printers and Scanners. He gained valuable experience across a broad range of areas (see CV) and brought innovation to a number of projects.

In his hometown of Brisbane, Australia, Tom graduated with Distinction at Queensland University of Technology (QUT), with a Bachelor in Built Environment, Industrial Design.

As an Associate Member of the Design Institute of Australia, Tom has a strong ability to analyse user needs and everyday problems and respond by creating cutting edge products and services. Tom works strongly both individually and in team. With a network spanning Europe, Australia and Asia, Tom can provide a unique perspective in order to obtain clear results.

His work has explored furniture, lighting, small appliances, sporting products, art direction, interiors and service design; anything where a creative process can be applied to provide a positive user experience and successful outcome. His projects strive to use sustainable practice and materials.

Recently, Tom has co-founded design studio The Emotion Lab and has been working as designer/art director for an exciting architectural project in Sydney, Australia. He's also been selected as the QUT Talent Profile for the 2010 prospectus.
